Barb’s Intel #4 - Sailing through Rough Waters

Updated: Sep 13, 2020

Hello and thank you for taking a moment to read this edition of my newsletter, Barb’s Intel, now converted to a news magazine format, so it is easier to read and navigate.

This issue highlights the successes of many of our EMBA alums and others in our network. It also pays tribute to the Sailing Experiential which so many individuals had the opportunity to take part in over the years. Thank you Buie Seawell for architecting the program and giving us the opportunity to feel the wind in our faces as we chart the course of life.

VUCA Thrive The acronym VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) was originally introduced in the US Army War College in the early 90’s to describe the shift to asymmetrical and multilateral challenges for the military following the Cold War. Since then, it has been used more broadly to help describe the challenging context many organizations are facing today—one of accelerating change and disruption.
